48 Hours in Paradise Valley, Montana

Published by
Taylor Owens

Between the Absaroka and Gallatin mountain ranges, Paradise Valley lives up to its name. This scenic stretch of southwest Montana is home to wide-open landscapes, natural hot springs, memorable local restaurants, and one of the most spectacular gateways to Yellowstone National Park.

With just 48 hours, you can experience a little bit of everything that makes this corner of Montana special. Here’s how to spend the perfect two days in Paradise Valley.

Day 1: Settle Into Paradise Valley

Check In at Sage Lodge

Start your getaway by checking into Sage Lodge, a beautiful retreat in the heart of Paradise Valley with incredible views of Emigrant Peak. Drop off your bags, take in the scenery, and settle into the slower pace of Montana life—you’ll be back later for happy hour.

Stop for Lunch at Follow Yer’ Nose BBQ

Next, head to Follow Yer’ Nose BBQ in Emigrant for lunch. This laid-back local favorite is the perfect introduction to Paradise Valley: unfussy, welcoming, and seriously delicious. Order up some smoked meats and classic barbecue sides before continuing your afternoon adventure.

Take a Dip at Chico Hot Springs Resort

After lunch, make your way to Chico Hot Springs Resort for one of the valley’s quintessential experiences. The historic resort is known for its naturally heated mineral pools, where you can soak surrounded by Montana’s mountain scenery.

Give yourself plenty of time to relax—you’re on Paradise Valley time now.

Happy Hour at Sage Lodge

Head back to Sage Lodge in the late afternoon and grab a drink while enjoying the views. After a day of exploring, there are few better ways to unwind than with a cocktail in hand and Emigrant Peak towering in the distance.

Dinner at the Old Saloon

Finish your first day at the Old Saloon in Emigrant. Dating back to 1902, this historic watering hole delivers plenty of Old West character alongside hearty Montana fare. Settle in for dinner, soak up the atmosphere, and toast to a day well spent in Paradise Valley.

Day 2: Yellowstone Adventure

Coffee & Pastries at Wild Flour Bakery & Cafe

Fuel up for a big day with coffee and freshly baked pastries from Wild Flour Bakery. It’s an ideal grab-and-go breakfast before hitting the road toward Yellowstone.

Explore Yellowstone National Park via the North Entrance

From Paradise Valley, drive south through Gardiner and enter Yellowstone National Park through the North Entrance.

The journey is part of the experience, with mountain views and wildlife sightings possible along the way. Once inside the park, spend the day exploring Yellowstone’s dramatic landscapes, wildlife, geothermal features, and iconic sights.

Depending on how much ground you want to cover, you can build your day around stops like Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, or the park’s scenic overlooks and hiking trails. Keep your plans flexible—sometimes the best Yellowstone moments happen when a herd of bison gives you a reason to slow down.

Dinner at Wonderland Cafe & Lodge

After your Yellowstone adventure, stop in Gardiner for dinner at Wonderland Cafe & Lodge. It’s a welcoming place to refuel after a full day in the park before making the scenic drive back through Paradise Valley.

Evening Drinks at Sage Lodge

End your 48 hours right where you started: back at Sage Lodge.

Order a final round of drinks, find a comfortable spot, and watch the evening settle over the mountains. After hot springs, barbecue, Yellowstone adventures, and plenty of Montana scenery, it’s the perfect ending to a whirlwind weekend in Paradise Valley.

Two days may only scratch the surface, but 48 hours is plenty of time to understand why this stretch of Montana is called Paradise Valley. Come for Yellowstone, stay for the hot springs, mountain views, local food, and small-town charm—and don’t be surprised if you start planning your return before you’ve even left.
