The only entrance open to vehicles year-round, Gardiner sits where the Yellowstone River leaves the park through the stone arch Theodore Roosevelt dedicated in 1903. It's a working town more than a resort one, with outfitters, a handful of good restaurants, and Mammoth Hot Springs five miles up the road.
